In addition to family physicians, they have obstetrics and gynecologists, as well as pediatricians. In Guatemala, as of 2006, all staff are responsible for direct patient health care in first- and second-level services (Health in the Americas -Volume II, 2007). Health Systems Profile of Guatemala was validated and recognized by a group of staff members and policymakers of the Ministry of public Health and Social Welfare, the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS), San Carlos University, and many more institutions.
