healthcare system

Healthcare in Palestine includes private and public coverage; thus it is a mixed system (Foundation for International Development of Family Medicine in Palestine, n.d.). Family medicine is recognized by the Ministry of Health (Health Systems Profile-Palestine, n.d.)

training

practice

Family doctors work alongside general practitioners to provide holistic primary care (personal interview, 2018). Ultimately, family physicians assume the role of general practitioners as they act as point of first contact, and are heavily involved in disease prevention and health promotion (Health Systems Profile - Palestine, n.d.). Family doctors do not act as gatekeepers as there is no referral systemd. They emphasize a family health approach to healthcare that accounts for a patient’s entire well-being (personal interview, 2018).
