training

Mozambique does not have an established family medicine program. (Besigye, Innocent, MD), Mozambique is experiencing physician shortage. The family medicine training program is not considered a specialty due to lack of financial resources and lack of understanding of the specialty. Mozambique’s next step would be to understand the importance of implementing a family medicine program, and perhaps this will also help fix the physician shortage.

Healthcare system

The healthcare system is mixed (public and private). (“Healthcare in Mozambique - Support | Allianz Care.”), It is unknown how many physicians are in the private and/or public sector.

Training:

Although family medicine is not yet established in this country there are still medical schools. High school is required and medical school entails 7 years of medical education followed by four years of residency. There is currently a lack of physicians in general in the country due to lack of funding and different barriers that prevent the delivery of medicine and the availability of physicians.

Practice does not apply in this country as family medicine is not established yet. it is unclear as to whether the establishment of family medicine will occur in the near future or not.
