Paraguay has public, private and mixed health care sectors. Family medicine is recognized by Family Medicine Associations in influential positions, advisor’s health policies and systems.

Training:

Training in this country involves 6 years of medical school since there is no undergraduate studies required followed by a 3 year residency in order to specialize in family medicine. There are approximately 240 graduates a year that become family physicians.

In addition to physicians, there are nurses. Family physicians in Paraguay mainly work in government clinics, where they work long hours since they are severely understaffed.
