training
Family physicians mostly facilitate curative and preventative care, depending on location. In rural areas, they provide holistic and continuous care to a small subset of patients (Cárdenas-lópez et al., n.d.) Pediatric specialists also play a very significant role in the primary care of children and youth (Axelrod & Nester, n.d.)
practice
There are both family physicians and General practitioners in this country. But the family physician received more post-graduate training and specializes in family medicine. They have a bigger and more specialized role compared to general practitioners and they are active agents in primary health care within the country focusing on preventative care and long-term monitoring and maintenance of chronic illnesses.
